This year's case study took around 40 FIABCI SUISSE members and friends to the impressive construction site of Zurich Insurance Company Ltd (Zurich). The company is building its new headquarters for 1,500 employees at Mythenquai in Zurich until 2020/2021. The renovations to the three existing buildings and the new building at the side and rear of the site facing Alfred-Escher-Strasse, Marsstrasse and Breitingerstrasse are already so far advanced that the team of visitors was able to venture up to the top floor. From there, there is an exclusive view over the city, Lake Zurich and as far as the Säntis.
HQ opening planned for the end of 2020
Hans-Peter Bissegger, project ambassador for the construction project known as "Quai Zurich", began by explaining the challenges posed by the construction site and the old properties (dating from 1901, the 1920s and 1932/1952) in his presentation and using a model. In addition, a large number of concrete piles had to be embedded in the ground for the new building in order to enable the desired expansion of the new building complex. The complexity of the "Quai Zurich" construction project is demonstrated by the planning and construction time alone, which Hans-Peter Bissegger estimated at ten years. The topping-out ceremony was celebrated last June. The new Zurich headquarters are scheduled to be opened and occupied from the end of 2020.
